26 years after her death, Selena's legacy continues to grow
SAN ANTONIO (WOAI/KABB) — An image of a single rose glowing in purple and white hues. That is how the ‘Queen of Tejano’ is being remembered 26 years after her death.
The image appears on the official Selena Facebook Fan page; purple, her favorite color, and the white rose, her favorite flower. Just minutes after it was posted, it was liked thousands of times by fans who continue to adore her.
Selena died on March 31, 1995, but her music and legacy have only grown exponentially to include honors from the Billboard Music Awards and the Grammys, as well as very successful makeup lines that sold out in minutes. A class at UTSA even pays homage to Selena’s ever-growing popularity.
A day-long tribute concert that was to take place in 2020 to mark the 25th anniversary since her passing never happened; the pandemic forced organizers to cancel. It’s unclear whether another event will take place in the future.
