'A gratefulness like you've never felt': Garth Brooks talks upcoming Nashville concert

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) – "It’s going to be a level of gratefulness like you’ve never felt."

That's how country superstar Garth Brooks feels about hitting the stage again after a tumultuous year with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brooks was all smiles Wednesday morning when chatting about hisupcoming tour at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

"I'm coming home," Brooks said. "This is the one that me and the crew all look forward to. This is your family, this is your kids.These are the people who you live in the neighborhood with. These are the people, out of all the people on the planet, that you want to make proud."

On July 31, Brooks' tour will perform at the home of the Tennessee Titans for the first time ever. Brooks says he played at the stadium once before for CMA Fest, when it was just him and a guitar.

"It was one of the coolest experiences of my life," Brooks recalled.

Brooks, the number one-selling solo artist in history with 157 million records sold, has sold-out stadiums in more than 75 cities and Gov. Bill Lee is hoping he does the same in Nashville.

Getting back on the stage is something Brooks is looking forward to.

"I think I speak on behalf of all artists and crew and on fan level...it's going to be a level of gratefulness like you've never felt."

He also said there’s also a great responsibility.

"You don’t want to get this thing up and running just to shut it down."

Brooks said it's important to follow state, stadium and in-tour rules and to make sure the people who come to see you are taken care of the best they can be.

"The main rule is these people leave that stadium loving each other more than they came in."

When asked if Brooks' wife and and country legend Trisha Yearwood would be joining him at the concert, Brooks explained that they spend every day together.

"The queen and I, we both were both married before we got married. So the thing we asked each other, 'Why are we being married to be apart?' So we made a vow way back then that every day we would stay together. So we’re always together," Brooks said. "Her gigs, I go with her, and my gigs, she comes with me."

But there's one big difference that Brooks said with a chuckle.

"The only difference between my gigs and my gigs is that at her gigs: Nobody asks about me. Everybody asks about the queen."

Brooks and Yearwood have been married more than 15 years.

"There’s one of the greatest voices to every grace any genre of music right there and I’m lucky enough to be Mr. Yearwood."
