Actress Olivia Munn has been very open about her battle with breast cancer and most recently revealed she had a hysterectomy.

In an interview with Vogue, she stated she has now hadan "oophorectomy and hysterectomy. I took out my uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries."

Munn said the procedure happened just last month and was an alternative to taking medicine that forced her into menopause and caused her to be bedridden.

"It was a big decision to make, but it was the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family," she said. "I had friends try to cheer me up by saying, ‘Malcolm’s not going to remember this. Don't worry.’ But I just kept thinking to myself, ‘I'm going to remember this, that I missed all these things.’ It's his childhood, but it's my motherhood, and I don't want to miss any of these parts if I don't have to."

While the procedure improved her quality of life, it also meant she could no longer carry children after having her son, Malcom, in 2021.

Munn said she and her husband, comedian John Mulaney, spoke about it and decided they weren't done "growing our family."

The actress, having previously frozen her eggs twice in the past, said she underwent another round of egg retrieval before having her hysterectomy in hopes of one day using a surrogate.

Her doctor informed the couple later that they had two healthy embryos.

"John and I just started crying," she said. "It was just so exciting because not only did we get it in one retrieval, but it also meant that I didn't have to keep putting myself at risk. It was just amazing."

Munn revealed her breast cancer diagnosis and double mastectomy in March.

She said she decided to keep her diagnosis private because "I needed to catch my breath and get through some of the hardest parts before sharing."

"This journey has made me realize how grateful I am to have options for not only fighting cancer, but also having more children if we want, because I know a lot of people don’t have those options," she stated in her interview.
