Amy Poehler mixes up Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman mid-interview
It’s a case of mistaken identity that could happen to the best of us!
Amy Poehler made a major goof while interviewing Gwyneth Paltrow on her “Good Hang” podcast on Tuesday, mixing up her guest with Nicole Kidman.
Poehler asked jokingly, “‘Cold Mountain.’ How cold was the mountain?”
Paltrow replied, “I wasn’t in ‘Cold Mountain!’”
Good thing Poehler is a comedy professional and improv master because she was able to reply, “Oh, forget it then,” without missing a beat.
Paltrow took the mix up as a compliment, saying, “But thanks for thinking I’m Nicole Kidman! Bonus!”
Both actresses cracked up, but Poehler was embarrassed, wondering, “Wait, why did I think you were in ‘Cold Mountain?’”
Paltrow shrugged it off, saying, “I don’t know, but I’m so happy you did.”
Poehler got one last joke in about the mixing up, asking, “‘Eyes Wide Shut.’ What was it like working with your husband, Tom Cruise?” Paltrow played along, replying, “Oh, he was hot.”
In all fairness to Poehler, it’s surprisingly easy to mix up Paltrow and Kidman. They’re both tall and blonde, are similar ages (Paltrow is 53, Kidman is 58), started working in Hollywood around the same time in the early 90s, have both won Oscars, and had high-profile relationships and break ups.
They’ve never worked together before, but according to Entertainment Weekly, they almost shared the screen in the period film “The Danish Girl.” Kidman’s part ultimately went to Eddie Redmayne, while Paltrow’s went to Alicia Vikander.
