Goodbye Carrie Bradshaw, for real this time.

The “Sex and the City” spinoff series, “And Just Like That,” is coming to an end after the season 3 finale. Showrunner, writer, and director Michael Patrick King revealed on social media Friday, August 1, that this is the last chapter for our favorite 50-something ladies living in New York City.

“And just like that... the ongoing storytelling of the’ Sex And The City’ universe is coming to an end,” he wrote. “While I was writing the last episode of ‘And Just Like That’ season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.”

King continued, “Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys, and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12. SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.”

In true Carrie style, actress and executive producer Sarah Jessica Parker penned a final letter reflecting on the end of a nearly three-decade-long run as her iconic character, complete with a carousel of photos dating back to the beginning of the “Sex and the City” show.

“Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all,” Parker wrote a heartfelt Instagram post. “[She] Changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City.”

She continued, “I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her.”

“Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, there will never be better friends and what great fortune for Carrie to come to know and love Seema and LTW, most divine new connections,” Parker, 60, concluded.

Well, we're sobbing! While we can’t say we are surprised by the news, it still stings to see the end of an era for the beloved characters many grew up watching since “Sex and the City” made its debut on HBO in June 1998 and ran for six seasons. At the start, Carrie was a mere 32-year-old rising sex columnist exploring Manhattan with her three friends Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon).

A lot has changed since the original show premiered and launched its spinoff series, excluding several key characters, but it feels like the right time to hang up this storyline. Carrie lost her true badass essence amid terrible dating choices. Miranda and Charlotte have been spiraling in too many different directions in their personal lives, making it hard to keep up. New characters, Seema played by Sarita Choudhury and Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) seemed promising, but it was a slow burn and not worth following beyond this point.

“And Just Like That” will air its final episode with a two-part special on August 14 on HBO Max.
