"And Just Like That:" Why Carrie needs to move on to Duncan after Aiden cheated
Spoiler Alert: Do not proceed if you aren’t caught up on season three, episode seven titled, “They Wanna Have Fun.”
Is the door open for Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) to explore a new love interest after Aiden’s infidelity?
As the saying goes: “The best way to get over someone is to get under someone” and while we don’t think sleeping around is necessarily the answer, we’re rooting for someone better for our favorite fashionista.
At this point, Carrie needs to make a decision in her dating life because we can all see Aiden isn’t endgame like she imagined when the two rekindled their romance for the second time. Despite Carrie’s efforts to suppress her feelings for her downstairs neighbor, Duncan (Jonathan Cake), it’s clear the two have undeniable chemistry. Yet, she’s in denial.
When Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) picked up on the obvious “fun time” Carrie was having at Charlotte’s (Kirsten Davis) surprise birthday party, it was met with hostility from Carrie because she’s still in a “complicated” relationship with Aiden (John Corbett).
Might we add this is the same boyfriend who made a bombshell confession to Carrie that he cheated with his ex-wife Kathy (Rosemarie DeWitt) because they were under “stress” about their son Wyatt (Logan Souza) heading off on a wilderness trip.

Since the season three premiere, we’ve noticed Carrie lost her spunk and spark being in a long-distance relationship with Aiden, who asked her to wait for him for five years while he acts as a primary parent to his son. You read that right, he asked her to wait and then he cheated.
We saw a glimmer of light in Carrie’s eyes as she exchanged first drafts with Duncan, a fellow writer and “friend.” At this point, the two are flirting through their words on paper and in person, but doing so lightly given Carrie situation-ship.
“First chapter is thrilling, polished and ready to be published,” Carried exclaimed after reading a sneak peek of Duncan’s new novel.
By the middle of the episode, Duncan returns with Carrie’s first draft, calling it “brilliant,” and she invites him to Charlotte’s karaoke-themed bash where she laughs all night at the various guests serenading each other and she not so subtly drinks scotch from Duncan’s glass.

We're ready for Carrie to wrap things up with Aiden (even with their 20-year history) because judging from his reaction to Duncan in episode 6, even Aiden's not oblivious to something deeper going on between Carrie and Duncan.
And Miranda did read an excerpt from Carrie’s upcoming book set in the 1800s, that read:
“She wondered what she got herself into...The woman held on to what she knew to be true.” Seems like more than fiction, more like an alarming red flag: Leave Aiden already!
Meanwhile, Charlotte is still holding a big secret about Harry’s health from her friends except for Carrie, who she she spilled the beans to while sobbing in a CVS aisle. Miranda, who picks up on everything this episode, puts Carrie in a tough spot when she tells her Charlotte needs a good time for her non-milestone birthday because she has “a lot going on.”
Keeping to her word to not reveal Harry's diagnosis to anyone else, Carrie blurts out to Miranda that Charlotte’s dog is dying from terminal cancer and the big celebration is partially a “last hurrah” for her dog, affectionately named Richard Burton. After Miranda confronts Harry (who is actually sick), telling him they will be there for his wife when the “unthinkable happens,” he finally confesses to Charlotte’s friends his prostate cancer diagnosis.
Where “Sex and the City” is a widely acclaimed series all about 30-somethings navigating life in the city, it's reboot “And Just Like That” covers mid-life complications, like the loss of Nicole Ari Parker’s character Lisa Todd Wexley’s dad (and Mr. Big’s shocking death), Harry’s scary cancer diagnosis, and of course, divorce and second chances in your 50s.

The spinoff “AJLT” still feels like a slow build from the original, but I guess that’s the stage of life the ladies are at.
One relationship we’re excited to finally see take off is between Carrie’s gardener, Adam (Logan Marshall-Green), and Seema (Sarita Choudhury). Now that Adam's finally single, we can't wait to see this once-off-limits romance reach new heights (starting with that steamy make-out session in the taxi).
‘And Just Like That’ airs new episodes Thursdays on HBO Max.
