Sally Kirkland, star of films like “Anna,” “JFK,” and “Bruce Almighty,” has died at the age of 84.

Kirkland died early Tuesday morning in Palm Springs, California, according to Variety, who spoke with her representative Michael Greene. The actress had been put in hospice last week after suffering a fall in the shower in October.

According to her GoFundMe page, Kirkland injured her ribs and foot, and had been previously diagnosed with a bone infection that spread to her bloodstream, in addition to dementia.

Kirkland rose to fame by leading her own grassroots Oscar campaign for her role in “Anna,” an independent comedy that also starred Paulina Porizkova. Her efforts earned her a Best Actress nomination, as well as a Golden Globe win and an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead.

Born in New York City, Kirkland made her first film appearance in Andy Warhol’s “The 13 Most Beautiful Women” in 1964 and was part of his famous Factory.

She went on to make TV appearances in shows like “Kojak,” “Baretta,” and “Three’s Company” and had roles in films like “The Way We Were,” “The Sting” and “A Star Is Born.”

Her final film appearance came in 2023’s “80 for Brady,” alongside Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field.

According to Variety, she is survived by her godson Coty Galloway (Bailey); close friends Paige Dylan, Mel England, Leigh Taylor Young, Xaque Gruber and Maggie Wagner; manager Valerie McCaffery and agent Greene; and cousins Brookie, Katherine and Tina Kirkland.
