WASHINGTON (SBG) — Barbie is celebrating Día de Muertos a little early, debuting a second doll in their collectioninspired by the Mexican holiday.

Día de Muertos(Spanish for "Day of the Dead") is in early November. Families gather to celebrate the lives of their departed loved ones over the course of the two-day holiday. The lively event is a colorful one, filled with music, food, flowers, desserts, offerings to the dead.

The toy brand said the "series honors the traditions, symbols and rituals often seen throughout this time."

The doll features several unique touches, such as her face painted in a calavera design. "Calavera" is Spanish for "skull," evoking the "Calavera Catrina" depictions seen historically in Mexican artwork. The doll's multifaceted lace dress features a layerembroidered with floral and skeleton accents hidden under a blush-colored lace embellished with "tiny pearlescent designs."

The doll's crowning achievement is the crown of skeleton hands holding roses, marigolds and her hair in an intricate design.

"We wanted to make sure that the second Día de Muertos Barbie was just as special as the first doll," designer Javier Meabe said.

He explained his design process included looking for new elements he could introduce to the second doll, while still keeping traditional "elementsthat are important to the Día de Muertos celebration."

The doll retails for $75 and purchases are limited to one doll per person.
