Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise reunite after 30 years as they rev up the 'F1' London red carpet
Stars collided on the “F1” red carpet in London when Tom Cruise dropped in to surprise Brad Pitt for the premiere.
The star studded duo posed together and were all smiles, looking sharp while rocking sunglasses and suits.
Earlier this month while promoting “F1,” Pitt revealed he and Cruise used to do go-kart racing and is ready to face off with him again.
“Tom and I gotta get back out there,” he told Extra. “The last time we went there, he pit me. He took me on the last corner, and I'm still bitter about it 30 years later. Nah, he had my number.”
Cruise and Pitt starred together in 1994’s “Interview with the Vampire,” but haven’t appeared together on screen since. They almost reunited in 2019 for the race car movie “Ford v Ferrari,” but GQ reported that the studio didn’t have the budget for the superstar duo.
In “F1,” Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a driving phenom from the 1990s who career ended after an accident. But now Hayes is ready to hit the racetrack again, facing off with an up can coming star driver played by Damson Idris.
"We're definitely, you know, wheel-to-wheel. It could all go horribly wrong. We had a few misadventures off track -- unintended," Pitt said at the London premiere.
The 61-year-old also revealed he had some superstitions to make sure his driving scenes went smoothly.
"It had to be left boot first, it had to left glove first, it had left seatbelt first. And if any of that went wrong, we had to start all over again," he said.
The film’s director, Joseph Kosinski, who also directed Cruise’s hit “Top Gun: Maverick,” said Pitt loved being behind the wheel.
"Sometimes he'd have a big smile on his face while we were shooting and it was supposed to be in a serious scene. And I had to be like, 'Brad, stop smiling so much, you're having too much fun.' So, he loved it and he was very, very good. I mean, even Lewis [Hamilton, the F1 star] was impressed with his driving style.”
For his role as the hotshot rookie, Idris underwent two years of training to master the F1 world.
"I was doing a bunch of neck exercises. I would be training in a car for four to five months before filming and then over the two-year period, I changed my diet. I was running every day. I hate to run," he said.
“F1” is in theaters June 27.
