WASHINGTON (TND) — Veteran actor Mark Margolis known for "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul" has died at 83, his son, Morgan Margolis confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
His son said he died Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City after a short illness.
He received an Emmy nomination for his role as Hector "Tio" Salamanca, a former cartel enforcer who communicated using a brass bell attached to his wheelchair.
Margolis was born in Philadelphia on Nov. 26, 1939, to a Jewish family and took his first acting class at 14.
After a year at Temple University, he moved to New York to study drama with Stella Adler at The Actors Studio where he would become a lifetime member.
To pay for classes, he served as Adler's personal assistant for nearly three years.
His onscreen debut was in the X-rated "The Opening of Misty Beethoven" in 1976.
Producer Peter Gould said he was "absolutely devastated to hear that we've lost Mark Margolis."
Margolis is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, his son and grandchildren.
