Christina Applegate hospitalized for painful kidney infection
Christina Applegate has revealed she has been hospitalized for a kidney infection.
On the podcast “MeSsy,” which she co-hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate shared details about the situation, recording the episode from a Los Angeles hospital.
Applegate said she had been in Europe visiting family when she began to feel unwell. On the flight back, she decided to go straight to the hospital.
“I'm like, I wanna be admitted,” the “Married with Children” star said.
Applegate, who struggles with multiple sclerosis, added, “I'm staying here because I want answers. I want every test that you can possibly think of or ones that you haven't even thought of, and I want them done.”
Th next day, Applegate woke up with pain on her right side, which she initially assumed was due to an inflamed or bursting appendix.
The pain was so intense, “radiating” from her back to her front, she recalled, “So much pain. I'm screaming, and they ordered me an emergency CT at 2 in the morning.”
The scan showed she had a kidney infection on her right side which later spread to her left as well.
Applegate said she’s stuck in the hospital for now.
“Because of this kidney infection, I have to have intravenous antibiotics right now. And that's where we're at.”
The “Dead to Me” star did find some humor in the situation. When doctors thought she might be suffering from a UTI, she says they questioned her hygiene.
“Like, what am I back-wiping? Like, seriously, I'm 53,” she said, adding she has “the cleanest vagina I'm a clean girl down yonder.”
Even with the humor, Applegate got emotional, admitting "I'm holding in a bag o’ tears right now."
"I sometimes fall into the nurse's arms like a freako, just like crying,” she added.
Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021and has been open about the various health issues that have come with the condition.
