WASHINGTON (SBG) -- The skateboarding video game franchise that defined both the genre and a generation is getting a massive overhaul.

Cue the nostalgia!

Famed skateboarder Tony Hawk used his 52nd birthday on Tuesday to announce "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2" are being remastered.

"#THPS is back! Original maps, original skaters, and songs from the original soundtrack plus new features. Thanks to all the fans of our series for keeping this dream alive," Hawk tweeted.

Players can say "hello again" to a full roster of skaters, but "goodbye" to the pixelated graphics and blurry textures that were hallmarks of the earlier games played on the original Playstation and Nintendo 64.

This time around, users will get to experience 4K graphics on the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The game is slated for release on Sept. 4 and is the first new entry in the series in five years. "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5" came out in 2015 and received heavy criticism.

New tricks are being added to the game and publisher Activision hopes the remakes will mark a return to glory for the series.
