'Cobra Kai' star speaks out after biting incident by co-star at convention
“Cobra Kai” star Alicia Hannah-Kim is speaking out after allegedly, and strangely, being bitten by her co-star, Martin Kove last week.
In a video on her Instagram posted yesterday, Hannah-Kim thanked fans for their support and offered her account of the strange moment when her co-star apparently unprovoked bit down hard on her arm, nearly drawing blood .
"I was really enjoying my time at Summer Con. I love meeting you guys in real life. Thank you to Taylor, who was my handler and took care of me all weekend. But as you can see, this was a serious incident,” she said.
She continued, "I just think that when you are confronted with something like this, it's good to stand up for yourself. It's an important choice to make. I think it's the good choice to make."
According to a report from authorities, on June 22 at Summer Con, Hannah-Kim approached an officer in the VIP area after Kove took her arm and bit “so hard he nearly drew blood,” per Variety. She then told her husband, who was with her at the event, and they went to confront Kove about the bite.
Allegedly, per the report, after being confronted, Kove, “exploded on them, saying something to the effect of how dare they confront him.” That’s when Hannah-Kim and her husband asked the reporting office to step in and diffuse the situation.
In body cam footage captured by the Puyallup Police, Kove said, "I was just playing because we're very playful together, and I bit down too hard, and I meant to just...,” per Fox News Digital.
Kove states several times in the clip that he attempted to apologize and explained, "You know, because we play all the time, we pop, we hit, we do stuff all the time because she's a female sensei, I'm the male sensei. We have all our scenes together, and we have a lot of fun.”
He later issued an apology statement after being forced out of the convention, per Entertainment Weekly.
In her video, Hannah-Kim assured fans that the incident was not indicative of her overall experience with the show.
"This does not represent my experience with the show at large. I think everybody can tell that it's a really good vibe and a great cast," she explained. "And everybody else is delightful. I don't want this to affect your love for the show. Feel free to love on it as hard as you want."
