PORTLAND, Ore (KATU) -- Nike has released a new "True to 7" shoe with former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick - and they've already sold out.

According to Nike's website, the shoes sold out in all kids and adult sizes. Kaepernick has remained a controversial figure since taking a knee during the national anthem in 2016 to protest racial inequality in the U.S.

On Monday, he tweeted ahead of the release of the new Colin Kaepernick x Nike Air Force 1. Hours later, the shoes were out of stock.

In addition to featuring Kaepernick's image on the heel tab and a hang-tag with his jersey number, the shoe has the date Kaepernick first kneeled during the anthem imprinted on the right sole.

In July, Nike pulled a pair of Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July sneakers from the market after controversy over the Betsy Ross flag that was displayed on them. Kaepernick was among those who asked Nike to halt production of those sneakers.
