Collectable roundup: Disney100 exclusive, limited, and obsess-worthy merchandise
ANAHEIM, Calif. (KUTV) — I've gone to great lengths to not become a Disney obsessed collector. Disney continues to do everything they can to convince me that I should use my obsessive compulsive tendencies and amass a complete collection of Poison Apple Mugs. I didn't know they were a thing and the secondary market for Disney Park exclusives is not a rabbit hole I can afford to fall down. Not that Alice had much to say about it when she fell into Wonderland.
I don't need an excuse to go to Disneyland. I've never been one to turn down an invitation to runaway to a place where creativity and imagination are celebrated as primary, rather than secondary, attributes. At the end of January Disneyland invited me out to see the new Wondrous Journeys firework spectacular, the World of Color - One light and water show, and ride Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, the new attraction in Toontown.
If I wanted, and I wanted, I could also check out the Disney100 menu of desserts and some of the collectable merchandise. If you're observant, you might notice that there is an abundance of purple and platinum (I tend to call it chrome, but since this is Disney and not Mad Max we'll go with platinum). I suspect that Prince, where ever he might be playing his guitar, would approve. It is unquestionably striking.
We'll talk food later. Now, we'll take a gander at what I like the call the Great Wall of Mickey and the museum-like display of a lot of cool stuff. Unfortunately, the giant platinum Mickey statue was not for sale. There were too many people around for me to try and stuff it in my bag and I'm fairly certain they would have confiscated it at the John Wayne Airport. It's the only place in the entire world where I've been asked, "Do you have a Steamboat Willie in your bag?"

I'd rather not think of myself as a slave to consumer culture, but Disney does have a way of imagineering merchandise that I want. I want two of everything. Instead, I talk an absolute stranger into buying the strawberry beret. If it came in stage-crew black I might have talked myself into buying one. I've never owned a beret. I bought a Tinkerbell pin, and the infamous Steamboat Willie ornament, and ran for the nearest exit. I was safe.
What I didn't know was that later that night I would be introduced to the Mickey Mouse Disney100 Platinum Sipper.
I know the food is a distraction. I've never bought a sipper. I have a few popcorn container. But Mickey and his outstretched arm beckoned to me. The Poison Apple mug is incredible too. Both are Disney Parks exclusives and in the end, I'd have to decide between the two (and the line at the churro stand for the mug was a hundred people deep).
I might regret this, but let's take a closer look at some of the Disney100 merchandise currently available (there's plenty more to come). You'll find most of these at the shopDisney site, but nothing compares to loading up on Mickey and Minnie ears, pins, and other collectables while making lifelong memories with family, friends, or strangers who look good in a red beret at Disneyland itself.
