Whether you’ve watched her in ‘The White Lotus’ or ‘Friday Night Lights,' changes are you know Connie Britton best as playing a mom. Now, the 58-year-old actress is taking her talents to the unscripted realm, as host and executive producer, helping uplift single moms in Hallmark’s ‘The Motherhood.'
The cast of the new unscripted reality TV show, sat down with our entertainment reporter, Courtney Tezeno and revealed how they are helping single moms without a support system tackle parenting, self-care, and work-life balance.
On the show, Britton gives viewers a sneak peek into the highs and lows of motherhood, including sharing some of her personal journey. She teams up with experts called ‘The Neighbor Ladies’ to support and create balance for single mothers tackling parenting duties alone. Ironically, the show’s concept was birthed out of a low point in Britton’s own life.
“That's where this idea started. [It} Was probably really during my identity crisis, after becoming a mom,” the actress admitted. “I also had just moved to Nashville, Tennessee to shoot the show ‘Nashville,’ which was a big job, and so I was working, and I was a single mom, and had this new baby. I'm like, ‘Oh, how do I do it? Where's the guidebook? How am I supposed to do this?’ And so, you know, it really made me recognize how essential it is, to have a support system and to have a community around you.”
And Britton is creating that sense of community with “The Motherhood.” The heartfelt show was shot in Kansas City where we meet moms in their own homes as they juggle work, parenting, and finances which leaves little time for anything else. In highlighting the daily sacrifices many moms can relate to, ‘The Neighborhood Ladies’ offer ideas to make things better for the families.

Stylist Taryn Hicks helps moms refresh their wardrobes – keeping each person’s personality and budget in mind. In the episodes, we see her create custom capsule wardrobes that fit the day-to-day lives seamlessly.
Angela Rose – DIY and home design expert – is the brains behind the interior design makeovers. She's all about creating living spaces that bring a mix of functionality with personalized touches --so every mom feels at home again.
While Destini Ann, a certified parenting coach, focuses on giving moms the tools to set boundaries and rules while creating a positive home life for the whole family. She makes the psychology of parenting fun and easy to follow!
When our Courtney Tezeno caught up with Britton and ‘The Neighbor Ladies,’ these moms dished on their self-care must haves. “I've just got to stay hydrated. Let's just start there,” Britton says.
Ann continues with her non-negotiable, a must-have we all can agree on, “... sleep.”
Meanwhile, Hicks says an uninterrupted meal is a luxury, “Mine is taking time to eat food for myself, not pick the food off my kids’ plate that's left over. I can have a sandwich just for me, yeah?," Hicks jokes.
As for Rose, she’s all about doing the things she loved before having her 3 kids. The interior design guru says, “feeling like my own person with my own interests [and] taking some time for things that I love that kind of spark the joy inside of me.”
In a culture where motherhood can feel all-consuming, Britton is changing the reality show landscape with stories that mirror the reality so many parents face.
