Country singer Tracy Lawrence frying up hundreds of turkeys for Nashville's homeless

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Country singer Tracy Lawrence is embracing the season of giving.

For the 16th consecutive year, Lawrence is frying up turkeys for the Nashville Rescue Mission.

A benefit concert is being held Tuesday at Skydeck at Assembly Food Hall from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 23. Tracy Lawrence, Dustin Lynch, Michael Ray and Lainey Wilson will perform in an intimate guitar pull style.

Last year, Tracy and friends fried up 500 turkeys to help feed homeless people on Thanksgiving. The turkeys went to provide 3,000 meals for people in need and the event brought in a record-breaking $125,000 in donations. Cooking will again take place in the parking lot of the Nashville Rescue Mission.

“Every year I’m floored how people consistently help us outperform the previous year to serve more meals and raise more money for the homeless and hungry," Lawrence said last year. "Honestly, we didn’t expect much this year with the pandemic so to have a record-breaking year in raising more money for people that need it more than ever, I’m just blown away!”

Tracy has been on this mission since 2006, the first "Mission: Possible Turkey." Since its inception, the event has raised nearly $1 million for the Nashville Rescue Mission and has fried more than 6,400 turkeys to help feed 93,000 homeless men, women and children in middle Tennessee.
