"Euphoria" and former "Grey's Anatomy" actor Eric Dane announced he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The 52-year-old revealed the news of the progressive disease, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in an exclusive interview with People magazine.

“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week,” he told the magazine. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time."

Dane is married to Rebecca Gayheart, with whom he shares two children, Billie Beatrice, 15, and George Geraldine, 13. In 2018, his wife filed for divorce but later filed to dismiss the petition.

ALS is a rare degenerative disease that gradually destroys the nerve cells, which affects how a person walks, talks, speaks and breathes. There is no cure and most patients die within three to five years of being diagnosed.
