Eric Dane has opened up on the reason he missed the “Grey’s Anatomy” reunion at the Emmys last month.

Dane, who was diagnosed with ALS earlier this year, played Dr. Mark Sloan on the hit medical drama and was scheduled to present at the award show alongside Jesse Williams, in honor of “Grey’s” 20th anniversary.

“ALS is a nasty disease,” the 52-year-old told The Washington Post. “So I was in the hospital during the Emmys getting stitches put in my head.”

Unfortunately, Dane fell at his home and split his head open, requiring a hospital visit.

Dane admitted he was “really upset” about the incident, but acknowledged “there was nothing I could do about it.”

“I missed an opportunity I was really looking forward to,” he told the outlet. “It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues, I thought, would have been a special moment.”

Williams, who played Dr. Jackson Avery on the show, presented solo. Before the ceremony, he told E! News he loved working with Dane. “You know, on and off screen, that’s my brother,” he said.

Dane first shared his ALS diagnosis in April and his since become an advocate for better treatment and support for fellow ALS patients.

“I have two daughters at home,” he said during a meeting on Capitol Hill last week to support funding for the reauthorization of the ACT for ALS law. “I want to see them, you know, graduate college, and get married and maybe have grandkids. You know, I want to be there for all that. So I’m going to fight to the last breath on this one.”

The ”Charmed” star shares two daughters, Billie and Georgia, with wife Rebecca Gayheart.

Gayheart opened up on the how difficult Dane’s diagnosis has been for the family.

“It’s a journey, and there’s no real road map for us to follow, so we’re facing things as they happen,” she told us at the Step Up 2025 Inspiration Awards.

She continued, “We’re trying to do it all with as much dignity and grace as possible and as much love as possible. It’s a really tough situation.”
