Everything we learned from Netflix's Tudum event, from 'Stranger Things' to 'Squid Game'
We finally have answers on when we can see the finales of some of our favorites, like “Stranger Things” and “Squid Game,” as well as sneak peeks at even more of Netflix’s offerings for the next year and then some.
Netflix hosted their annual Tudum event, a “celebration of fandom and culture-defining storytelling” per their website, filled with performances, announcements, and more.
Stranger Things Final Episodes (Finally!)
After nearly three years of waiting, we finally know when we’ll get to see the final showdown between El, Mike, Will, Lucas, and Dustin against the creatures from The Upside Down in season five of “Stranger Things.
Netflix released a trailer light on new footage, save for the last few seconds, that revealed the premiere dates for the episodes: four episodes on November 26 (the day before Thanksgiving), three more on Christmas Day, and the grand finale on New Year’s Eve.
Squid Game Season Three Green Light
The worldwide phenomenon of “Squid Game” is coming to an end this year as well, with a June 27 release date.
The live audience got a taste for the game when the infamous pink jumpsuited guards stormed the stage and performed a dance before cast members introduced the final trailer.
That’s DOCTOR Frankenstein to You
The first trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s highly anticipated adaptation of the horror classic “Frankenstein” premiered during the event, starring Oscar Isaac as the doctor playing God and Jacob Elordi as his creation (though the “Euphoria” star’s final look is hidden from the camera).
Del Toro’s vision is clearly all over the gothic film and appears to be closer to the source material of Mary Shelley’s novel than any more recent adaptations.
Get Happy (Gilmore 2)
Almost 30 years after the original, Adam Sandler is back with “Happy Gilmore 2.” The sequel features a star-studded cast, including Travis Kelce, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, and more.
Julie Bowen, Kevin Nealon, Ben Stiller, and Christopher McDonald also reprise their characters from the original, as Happy takes golf back up to send his daughter (played by Sandler’s real life daughter, Sunny Sandler) to ballet school.
Knives Out, Stars Out
Another all-star cast was revealed at the presentation for “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” the third entry in the film series starring Daniel Craig. It might be faster to list who’s NOT in the movie, but among the cast are Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, and Cailee Spaeny, all together for another twisty mystery to be solved by Craig’s Southern detective, Benoit Blanc.
Little Monsters
Audiences got a look at the first six minutes of season two of “Wednesday,” featuring Jenna Ortega’s gloomy Wednesday Addams facing off with a doll-obsessed serial killer.
The live show also featured a performance from Lady Gaga, who will make a cameo as Rosaline Rotwood, a teacher at Nevermore, the school Wednesday attends in the spooky series.
C is for Cookie and B is for Boston
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon had a run-in with Cookie Monster in a backstage clip, sharing that they’re all big fans of each other (and snagging a cookie or two). That played before the live audience got a first look at the duo’s new film, “The Rip,” due out in January next year. The trailer was exclusive to the live broadcast and has been tucked away for now, but will likely appear again closer to 2026.
