Ex-wrestler Billy Jack Haynes named suspect in Lents neighborhood homicide

Portland Police say they have identified the suspect in Thursday’s Lents Neighborhood homicide.

70-year-old William Albert Haynes, Jr. of Portland has been named the suspect. Haynes is Janette Becraft’s husband.

Police say Haynes is in police custody at a local hospital while he is being treated for a medical condition unrelated to the homicide. Once he is released from the hospital, which could be several days from now, he is expected to be taken to jail.

Haynes, who was a professional wrestler, performed under the name Billy Jack Haynes.

Police say 85-year-old Janette Becraft died of homicide by gunshot wound.

On Thursday, February 8, at 9:52 a.m., officers from East Precinct responded to reports of a shooting inside a home in the 6000 block of SE 100th Avenue.

Officers determined the suspect was inside the home and they requested assistance from SERT and CNT in order to safely take the suspect into custody. Officers went inside the home and located an adult female who was deceased.
