If you’re ever taking a trip to Michigan, Jana Kramer has you covered on the must-visit spots in her home state. The ‘One Tree Hill’ actress, who was born in Rochester Hills, MI, says she loves to take family trips back home since she owns a lake house in Gaylord, MI, with her husband Allan Russell.

First Stop: Visit Traverse City, then take a ferry to Mackinac Island

If you’re a “Fudgie”, a term used for tourists visiting Northern Michigan who enjoy fudge, Kramer says first timers should travel by boat to taste a sample.

“I think anyone that has hasn't been to Michigan, go up to Traverse City and then take the ferry over to Mackinac Island,” the actress, 41, explained. “It's the cutest little island of fudge and horses, and it's such a great family island.”

Next Stop: Stay at The Grand Hotel

Next on the agenda, Kramer recommends checking into The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

“There’s a beautiful hotel there to stay to where they filmed that really old movie back in the day it's a beautiful place.”

Kramer is referring to the 1980s cult classic romantic film, ‘Somewhere in Time.’ The film stars Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour, where a playwright uses self-hypnosis to travel back in time to meet the actress whose portrait hangs at The Grand Hotel.

Final Stop: Swim, Sunbathe, Hike at Sleeping Bear Dunes

“Then there's Sleeping Bear Dunes. And I just, I love the lakes. Lakes and bodies of water just kind of calms me down.” Kramer said. “So any lake you put me on with a boat, I'm a happy girl.”

Kramer is adamant about tourists soaking up the sun and stopping by this national treasure located on the northeast shore of Lake Michigan. Between the beach and hiking trails, there’s something for anyone who enjoys taking the scenic route.

When the actress isn’t enjoying family fun in Michigan, she’s traveling and exploring new cities, but for Kramer a very famous line from a very famous movie summed up her feelings, “There’s no place like home.”
