'HGTV House Party' star Loren Ruch dead at 55
Loren Ruch, who starred in the 2021 series “HGTV House Party” and was head of content for the channel, has died at age 55.
Ruch died last Thursday of acute myeloid leukemia, according to a report from Variety.
The outlet also shared a memo from Channing Dungey, chair of Warner Bros. Television Group, honoring Ruch.
“Loren was the rare leader who lifted everyone around him. Known for his unwavering dedication, endless kindness, and unshakeable integrity, Loren built not only hit shows but enduring relationships, serving as mentor, advocate and true friend to countless colleagues across the television landscape,” the memo read.
It continued, “His impact stretched far beyond the screen. Loren was the connective tissue of every room he entered – the glue that bound teams, departments, and friendships. He possessed the rare gift of making people feel seen, valued, and inspired to do their best work.”
Ruch has been with HGTV as a top programming executive since 2008 and oversaw production on series like “HGTV Dream Home,” “HGTV Green Home,” “Rose Parade” and “White House Christmas.”
As the head of content, he managed shows like “My Lottery Dream Home,” “Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge,” and “A Very Brady Renovation.”
HGTV stars paid tribute to Ruch on social media. “Queer Eye” alum Bobby Berk, who also appeared as a celebrity judge on “Rock the Block,” shared a photo with Ruch on Instagram, writing, "RIP my friend. You were always such a warm light in a dark world and will be missed by so many."
“Help! I Wrecked My House” host Jasmine Roth shared a tribute ass well, writing, "To know Loren was to love him. He had one of those personalities that people gravitate towards. He was fun loving and one of the most creative people I’ve met."
Ruch is survived by his husband, David Salas, as well as his mother, father, and a brother, per Variety.
