SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — In 1982, the most important thing in the world to six-year-old me was "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," the story of a young boy who finds friendship with a homesick alien. It came out two days after my birthday and Mom and I saw it in a dome theater. That Christmas, Mom and I traveled up to Casper, Wyoming, to visit her parents. I remember the lights as they glowed warmly against the cold landscape and coming home with a 12" stuffed E.T.
In 2002, Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Olympics and one of the special events was an "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" screening with a live orchestra. I took my sisters.
I wanted to grow up to be Elliot in the scene where he pulls up a chair to kiss the popular girl after freeing the frogs. I never quite got there.
