Princess Diana is being remembered around the world on what would have been her 64th birthday today.

The late icon, dubbed the People’s Princess, was known for her charitable works, from supporting AIDS patients to removing landmines through the International Red Cross.

Throughout her world travels, Princess Diana made several significant stops in the United States, creating memorable moments with her endearing personality and notable fashion sense.

Check out her top four visits below.

1985

Princess Diana was married to then Prince Charles (now King Charles III) in 1981 and did several tours with him, including her first as a royal to the U.S. in 1985.

While visiting, she met with President Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan, but her most memorable moment was dancing with John Travolta at the White House.

1989

In 1989, Princess Diana traveled to New York solo, attending several parties and galas, as well as visiting the AIDS unit of Harlem Hospital.

There she made her most memorable move, picking up a 7-year-old AIDS patient and giving them a hug, helping end the stigma surrounding the disease and breaking the misconception that it could be transmitted through casual contact.

1996

Princess Diana and Prince Charles divorced in 1996 and that same year she made a solo trip to New York again, attending events like a United Cerebral Palsy charity awards dinner and famously, the Met Gala.

1997

Princess Diana made her final visit to the U.S. just weeks before her death in Paris in a car crash at the age of 36.

During her visit in Washington D.C., she met with First Lady Hillary Clinton at the White House and went to events related to her landmine elimination cause.
