Hugh Jackman is 'disappointed' after ex-wife's hurtful comments
Hugh Jackman’s is reportedly “disappointed” after his ex-wife opened up for the first time about their unexpected split two years ago. An anonymous source told People that Hugh, 56, was completely “blindsided and extremely disappointed” by Furness’ words. Furness, who was married to Jackman for 27 years, reportedly called the split a "profound wound that cuts deep." A source told People, “There was an unwritten understanding that she would not trash him to the press” but he now knows “he cannot change anything.”
Deborra-Lee Furness broke her silence on the “betrayal” as rumors continue to swirl that Hugh Jackman allegedly cheated on his ex-wife with his now-girlfriend Sutton Foster. Earlier this month, the "Wolverine" star and actress officially filed for divorce nearly two years after announcing their separation.
In a statement to the Daily Mail, Furness addressed what may have led to the end of a three-decade long marriage.
“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,” the Furness said. “It’s a profound wound that cuts deep; however I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us.”
The 69-year-old reflected on how this belief has helped her process the split. “I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience. Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose," she added. “It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values, and boundaries is liberation and freedom.
The former couple met in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV show "Corelli" and got married a year later. They share two kids, Oscar, 25, and Ava,19.
Furness says the biggest lesson she’s learned while healing from the demise of their marriage is that “none of this is personal.” She adds, “We are all on our individual journeys, and I believe that the relationships in our lives are not random. We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons and to recognize and heal the broken parts of ourselves...I remain grateful.”
When the Aussie pair announced their separation back in 2023, Jackman and Furness seemed amicable, releasing a joint statement to People: "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.” They ended the statement signing, “This is the sole statement either of us will make.”
It seems Furness is singing a different tune these days. As previously reported to the Daily Mail, the marriage started to fall apart during COVID, around the same time Jackman became friends with his co-star Foster in the 2022 Broadway revival of "The Music Man." Sutton was married to her husband, Ted Griffin.
Jackman and Foster made it red carpet official in January after months of speculation that the two were an item. In 2023, Foster filed for divorce from her screenwriter husband after nearly a decade of marriage.
The two share a 7-year-old daughter, Emily.
