Is Marge Simpson actually dead?! 'The Simpsons’ give us a clear answer
Marge Simpson fans can rest easy!
The viral rumors claiming the character was permanently killed off from the show, are now dead, but thankfully Marge isn't according to a revelation from the executive producer.
Fans of ‘The Simpsons’ have been unwell since the May season finale where Marge Simpson was ‘killed off.’ The series executive producer, Matt Selman is finally speaking out about her fate though. He made it clear to fans that they did not kill off the Simpson’s matriarch, “there is no canon. The Simpsons’ doesn’t even have canon!” Selman told Variety. (Canon is the term used in “the business” to reflect the never aging characters even as their world changes to reflect real life events.)
The speculation came from the season 36 season finale “Estranger Things” which aired on May 18. In the episode Bart and Lisa are seen drifting apart, they even stop watching “Itchy & Scratchy” together. They decide to maintain their relationship but drift apart once Marge dies. We see years later that Lisa is the commissioner of the NBA and Bart is running an unlicensed retirement home where Homer lives. Lisa makes her way back to Springfield for a speech where she finds a video Marge made saying how Bart and Lisa need to look after each other, resulting in the sibling duo’s bond coming back together. As this is happening, Marge is watching the events unfold from heaven, while having an affair with Ringo Starr.
“I guess this speaks to the fact that people care about Marge. At the end of the day, it’s probably good for business even when these ridiculous, misleading stories go viral!” Selman tells Variety.
‘The Simpsons’ has been renewed for four more seasons taking it into its 40th season through the 2028-2029 season.
