Jana Kramer dishes on secrets to her marriage, divorce and lessons for her kids

Jana Kramer reveals the secret to her happy marriage with husband, former soccer player Allan Russell. The newlyweds tied the knot in July 2024 in Scotland, after meeting in 2022.
“For us, we love adventure,” Kramer said while promoting her new Lifetime movie, ‘Kidnapped by a Killer: The Hannah Robinson Story.’ The actress, 41, adds it’s one of their ways to reconnect when their work schedules get busy and they start “feeling disconnected” because they’ve “got a lot going on with three kids.”
In fact, Kramer had to leave her weekend getaway with Russell after discovering she had booked the role of an investigator in her new Lifetime movie, which airs on June 7.
“The day we landed in the Bahamas, I got the offer to this movie, and we ended up leaving because I'm like, Listen, this is my job. This is my work.”
The ‘One Tree Hill’ star also opens up about events from her teenage years that have shaped her life today.
“My parents got divorced when I was a teenager, and it was hard,” Kramer revealed. “I knew we didn't have the picture-perfect family, because I could hear the fights. I could hear things going on.”
Kramer continued, “That was a big moment for my for my childhood but when it comes to me as a teenager in school, I loved my friendsI was happy and chasing boys -- chasing the wrong boy, but it's fine because that's what we do.”
In 2021, Kramer finalized her divorce from Mike Caussin after nearly 7 years of marriage, citing inappropriate marital behavior. The exes share daughter Jolie, 8, and son Jace Joseph, 6. Kramer and Russell welcomed their 1-year-old son Roman in November 2023.
When the couple isn’t juggling their busy careers and spending quality time with their kids, Kramer says they decompress and try to connect.
“When we don't have that connection time, we love playing tennis together or pickleball,” the mom-of-three said. “I think when we have that disconnect, it's like, hey let's go for a walk or let's go on a family walk.”
Kramer gushed about keeping the romance alive with a “pretty healthy spicy life”, but the actress jokes she has timeframes where she shuts down, especially with a toddler.
“I told him if it's too far past bedtime, I'm tired and I'm done,” Kramer said. “I'm like, past 10 o'clock, don't touch me. I want to go to bed. That baby is waking up at 6:30 in the morning, so I need sleep.”
In the Lifetime film about an abduction, Robinson finds out the truth about her adoption before her 16th birthday and her biological mother’s murder remains a mystery. The biggest lesson she wants her daughter to learn after portraying this role is to trust her instincts in all scenarios.
“What I will tell my daughter when she is older, listen to your gut,” Kramer said. “It is the most powerful thing that you have in your body that is telling you, if you don't feel like something is right for you, like your gut is going to tell you. It's always going to lead you mostly in the right direction.”
