NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) -- Country music star Jennifer Nettles made a statement with her ensemble of choice as she walked across the red carpet at the CMA Awards Wednesday evening.

Nettles sported a white pant suit with a long pink train bearing the words, "Equal play" and "Play our f*@#!n records. Please and thank you!"A representative for the singer-songwriter said Nettles decided to "turn fashion into action" at this year's event.

"Her hope is to inspire the conversation about country music's need to play more women artists on radio and playlisting," the representative said.

The Sugarland singer's outfit was designed by Christian Siriano and New York street artist Alice Mizrachi.

The CMA Awards honored legendary women in country music this year with an inspiring all female opening performance including Nettles and hosts Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood and Reba McEntire.
