Jessica Simpson says she was body-shamed by Vogue 'for having boobs'

WASHINGTON (SBG) -- Vogue has apologized to Jessica Simpson after the singer says she felt body-shamed by the fashion and lifestyle magazine.

The story appeared Monday in Vogue.com's oral history of the Met Gala, the same day the canceled 2020 event was set to take place.

Simpson's issue with the publication was sparked by an anecdote from Sally Singer, digital creative director for Vogue. In the article, Singer shared her story of what happened with Simpson and former boyfriend, John Mayer, at the 2007 Met Gala.

Singer recalled Simpson's plunging neckline, in rather blunt language, mentioning her breasts appeared to be falling out of her gown.

"...at dinner it was suddenly like, whoa, Jessica Simpson’s breasts are across from me at the dinner table and they are on a platter and I’m looking at them," the article reads. "And John Mayer was putting his hands on them at the dinner table. He kind of reached down and I just remember thinking, 'Oh, celebrities, feel free to play here. That’s what’s going on.'"

Simpson took to social media the next day, clapping back at the "inaccurate" oral history.

"...I have persevered through shaming my own body and internalizing the world’s opinions about it for my entire adult life. To read this much anticipated article about the classiest fashion event there is and have to be shamed by another woman for having boobs in 2020 is nauseating," Simpson wrote in an Instagram post.

Vogue has since apologized for the story, saying they never intended to body shame Simpson. Singer's account of that night's events are still included in the article, however.
