John Goodman, Nick Offerman, and Xolo Maridueña share hometown dishes for a 'Smurfs' party
The Smurfs love a good party, and the cast of the new movie has the perfect dishes from their hometowns to bring to the animated cookout.
Nick Offerman, born and raised in Joliet, Illinois, would show off one of the Midwest’s best crops.
“Sweet corn is the easy answer,” he told our entertainment reporter Courtney Tezeno. “I come from a corn farming family. I have many things I can offer you on the barbecue, but sweet corn with butter and salt can’t be beat.”
John Goodman, born and raised in Afton, Missouri would also go the vegetable route.
“We used to get pretty good tomatoes where I grew up, I have yet to see their like,” he said proudly.
He added that there are some contenders out there near Offerman’s old stomping ground.
Goodman said, “I was just in his neck of the woods shooting a film and the tomaters were pretty good so far.”
Xolo Maridueña is a Los Angeles local and was ready to deliver with some flavorful options.
There’s gotta be the Trompo Smurf, the dude sitting there getting the meat for the tacos,” Maridueña said.
For the uninitiated, trompo is the name for the vertical spit used for roasting tacos al pastor, which are made of pork marinated in a blend of spices, chilies, and pineapple.
Maridueña would also bring hire, “Frutero Smurf, like the dude with the cart of fruit, those are musts. Definitely not the easiest to bring to the cookout, but definitely delicious.”
“Smurfs” is in theaters July 18.
