Kate Middleton’s hair flip: back to brunette after just a few days as a blonde
Kate Middleton appears to have gone back to her roots after a dye job that left royal watchers surprised.
On September 4, The Princess of Wales debuted some much lighter locks compared to her usual brunette hair during an official engagement at The National History Museum's Gardens, alongside her husband, Prince William.
The new look was a shock to many, considering Kate’s rarely deviated from her signature brunette locks.
Her hair also appeared longer than ever, prompting many questions from online commenters over whether or not the new look was a wig.
The transformation didn’t last long though.
Two days later at the Women’s Rugby World Cup, Kate was right back to her brunette roots, with minimal highlights, worn in a half up half down style she often favors.
By Monday, September 8, the blonde was even more toned down, visible only in certain lights.
Kate had her usual shade as a of July, when she was last seen publicly at Wimbledon on July 12 and 13, before taking a summer break.
While Kate’s blonde look had its critics, many others came to her defense over trying something new, especially after the 43-year-old underwent cancer treatment.
Sam McKnight, who was Princess Diana’s personal stylist until her death in 1997, spoke out in Kate’s defense.
"I am shocked, horrified, and dismayed by all the nasty comments about the Princess of Wales today," he wrote on Instagram when her blonde look debuted. “A woman’s hair is very personal to her, its armor, defense, confidence and so much more.
"I cannot believe how evil and lacking in any kind of empathy are the comments, the majority made apparently by other women, attacking a[nother] vulnerable other young woman, who has no choice, by dint of who she married, and the role she took on, to bravely face the public."
"She has brilliantly and quietly, unselfishly represented our country, the soft power we still have as a nation. Cancer affects individuals differently, but is life-changing for everyone. So FFS LEAVE HER ALONE. SHAME ON YOU," McKnight concluded.
