NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The countdown is on until country music's biggest night! With the awards show happening in just a few hours, two winners were revealed early Wednesday morning.
East Tennessee natives Kelsea Ballerini and Kenny Chesney have scored trophies in two categories for "half of my hometown," Ballerini's song about Knoxville, Tennessee.
Ballerini and Chesney scored the CMA Musical Event of the Year and CMA Music Video of the Year awards in a surprise announcement on Good Morning America. The honors serve as Ballerini's first CMA Awards win and Chesney's ninth.
Chesney took to Twitter to congratulate Ballerini on their victory.
"Growing up in East TN, it’s a deeper kind of home. That’s what makes being part of #halfofmyhometown so special. I’m thrilled for Kelsea to have won Musical Event & Music Video of the Year! She couldn’t deserve it more & I’m honored to be a part of it," Chesney said.

The awards show with performances from stars like Eric Church, Miranda Lambert and Chris Stapleton will be hosted by Luke BryanWednesday night from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The first CMA Awards Banquet and Show was held in 1967 with its first broadcast the following year. Organizers say it’s the longest running, annual music awards program on network television.
