It is with great pains that I have to report that the entire Saved by the Bell franchise (or at least a large chunk of it) will be leaving Netflix on September 14, 2022. I promise, I don't view all of my teen years with a sense of disdain. Just the mainstream parts. I do, however, concede that for many of you the loss of the original Saved By the Bell series could be a traumatic occurrence. That's fine. My taste is impeccable only to myself. You might also want to be aware that all eight seasons of "The Vampire Diaries" are also about to expire.

I'm more concerned with the departure of "Boogie Nights," "Insidious," "Argo," "Seven," "Taxi Driver," and "Full Metal Jacket."I intended to watch "Gotham." I'll only have until the 18th to do so. Here are five other titles that stood out for me.

Mean Girls

It's hard to believe that "Mean Girls," a scathing comedy about popularity, was released in 2004. It's even harder to believe that 2004 was 18 years ago. Babies that were born during the film's release are on their way to college.

Studio Synopsis:After living in Africa with her zoologist parents, Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) must brave the wilds of high school where she is taken under the wing of the popular girls, The Plastics, led by the cool and cruel Regina George (Rachel McAdams). What follows is a treasure trove of sharp, witty humor that defined a generation, inspired a hit Broadway musical, and popularized countless catchphrases. Co-Starring and written by Tina Fey, and featuring Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, Lizzy Caplan, Daniel Franzese, and Amy Poehler, Mean Girls is nothing short of a pop culture phenomenon and an iconic classic.

Nightcrawler

I've dealt with my share of freelance photographers over the years and while "Nightcrawler" over inflates them to larger-than-life characters (it's essentially the "how I see myself" meme) the film is entertaining and Jake Gyllenhaal goes all in with his manic performance.

Studio Synopsis:Nightcrawler is a pulse-pounding thriller set in the nocturnal underbelly of contemporary Los Angeles. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Lou Bloom, a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime. Finding a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles into the cut-throat, dangerous realm of nightcrawling -- where each police siren wail equals a possible windfall and victims are converted into dollars. Aided by Nina (Rene Russo), a veteran of the blood sport that is local TV news, Lou blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story.

Catch Me If You Can

Truth is stranger than fiction in this amusing Steven Spielberg film.

Studio Synopsis:Frank didn't go to flight school...Frank didn't go to medical school...Frank didn't go to law school...because Frank’s still in high school! Inspired by the true story of a brilliant young master of deception and the FBI agent hot on his trail. Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. Frank W. Abagnale, Jr. successfully passes himself off as a pilot, a lawyer and a doctor – all before his 21st birthday!

Dirty Harry

The classic Clint Eastwood film made the actor a mainstream star.

Studio Synopsis:Academy Award-winner Clint Eastwood ("Unforgiven," "Million Dollar Baby") stars as "Dirty Harry" Callahan in this riveting action film that spawned several blockbuster sequels. In this original, Detective Harry Callahan is determined to bring in psychotic killer Robinson, even if he's determined to break some of the rules. Brilliantly filmed for maximum impact. Recently selected by the prestigious American Film Institute as one of the 400 greatest American films of all time and added "Dirty Harry" as part of the 50 Greatest Heroes of all time.

Blade Runner: Final Cut

"Blade Runner" is still the most beguiling science-fiction film that I've ever seen. Its version of 2019 was a gorgeous, frightening vision. If you want to dig deeper, I recommend Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?," the novel that inspired the film.

Studio Synopsis:Ridley Scott's definitive Blade Runner: The Final Cut (2007) includes extended scenes and new special effects. Harrison Ford stars in this fascinating, dark vision of the near future as a policeman who tracks engineered humans--a Blade Runner. In the year 2019, the police department forces Rick Deckard (Ford) out of retirement to hunt four genetically engineered humans who have come to earth. Designed to do difficult, hazardous work, the manufactured humans are stronger, faster and smarter than non-engineered humans. They feel no pain or remorse; they are almost indistinguishable from other humans ... and they are killing people. Now Deckard must stop them before they kill again.
