The world of “Game of Thrones” is woven with dense histories that we’ve only gotten glimpses of until now.

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is the prequel series, set 100 years before the events the hit HBO series, based on the books by George R.R. Martin.

The official description of the series reads, “A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

Peter Claffey stars as Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell plays Egg, who’s really Prince Aegon Targaryen (not related to any of the multiple Aegons in the other prequel series, “House of the Dragon.”)

The prequel is based on a series of novellas from Martin, known collectively as “Tales of Dunk and Egg.”

Based on the trailer, you can expect the lush visuals and violent battles the “Game of Thrones” universe is known for, plus a little dose of humor and charm thanks to Dunk and Egg’s relationship.

The show also stars Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Daniel Ings, Tanzyn Crawford, Sam Spruell, Ross Anderson, Edward Ashley, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Daniel Monks, Shaun Thomas, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Steve Wall and Danny Webb.

The six-episode, half-hour series will premiere on January 18 on HBO Max.
