'Lilo & Stitch' tops box office again, beating out Tom Cruise's 'Mission: Impossible'
Stitch, the chaotic but adorable little blue alien, wreaked havoc at the box office again this weekend, after helping set a Memorial Day record in its opening week, and knocking back Tom Cruise for the second week in a row.
#1 Lilo & Stitch
“Lilo & Stitch” came in first once again this week, earning $63 million, adding to a domestic total of $280 million.
#2 “Mission: Impossible—Final Reckoning
Tom Cruise couldn’t quite defeat the power of Disney at the box office again this week, with his final “Mission: Impossible” film bringing in $27 million.
#3 Karate Kid: Legends
The “Karate Kid” franchise is going strong in pop culture, first with the Netflix spinoff, “Cobra Kai,” and now the sixth film in the series, “Karate Kid: Legends.” Premiering in theaters this weekend, it brought home $21 million.
The movie takes place three years after the conclusion of “Cobra Kai” and brings together original star Ralph Macchio with martial arts legends Jackie Chan, who starred in the 2010 reboot/sequel, “The Karate Kid.”
#4 Final Destination: Bloodlines
Horror fans were out in droves till this weekend, taking up the last two spots in the top five, first with “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” which took home $10.8 million, adding to an impressive $111 million domestic for the sixth film in the horror series.
#5 Bring Her Back
And in fifth place was the indie horror “Bring Her Back,” which took home $7 million. The film has been a hit with critics and audiences, telling an eerie tale of a brother and sister discovering their new foster mother’s strange rituals at their new home.
