“The Cosby Show” star Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s daughter was swimming with him when he drowned on Sunday.

Warner and his daughter, 8, were swimming off the coast of Costa Rica when he was caught in a rip current, according to a report from ABC News.

Police told the outlet surfers spotted the actor and his daughter struggling and dove in to help.

A surfer used his board to help Warner’s daughter to safety, while a volunteer lifeguard pulled Warner and another surfer to shore.

Warner was given 45 minutes of CPR, police told ABC News, but he was unable to be revived. Both surfers survived.

Costa Rican National police previously told the outlet that Warner drowned off the coast of Costa Rica on Sunday due to asphyxia.

Warner was swimming near Cocles, a beach in Limon, Costa Rica, police said.

“The Cosby Show” alum rose to fame in the ‘80s for his beloved role as Theodore Huxtable, cementing his name in TV royalty. He played the only son of Bill Cosby’s character, Heathcliff Huxtable, in the series from 1984 to 1992.

The 54-year-old kept his daughter’s identity private, opting to not disclose her name or official birthdate on social media or to the public.

"Thank you for sharing in my joy as a father even though I don't post her face. She has the rest of her life for that life. Right now I just want her to BE," he wrote on a post in 2019 that showed photos, but hid her face.

In a 2021 Instagram post, he did remark that his daughter was three-years-old.
