WASHINGTON (SBG) — As part of its “Disney Plus Day” event, Disney announced a slew of new projects Friday, as well as revealing new details about other upcoming original series and films.
The streaming service confirmed reports of a spin-off from its “WandaVision” series starring Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness, titled “Agatha: House of Harkness,” as well as an original series featuring Alaqua Cox as Echo, a deaf hero debuting in Disney’s “Hawkeye” later this year.
A second season of the animated series “What If?” was officially announced, as well as a new animated series set in the “Marvel Zombies” universe. Marvel is also set to revisit its 1990s X-Men animated series with “X-Men ’97,” coming in 2023. A Spider-Man animated series sub-titled “Freshman Year” is also on the way, with “a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.”
Marvel Studios also offered up first looks at previously-announced original series expected to premiere in the next year, including “Moon Knight,” “She-Hulk, “Ms. Marvel,” and “Secret Invasion,” as well as a series of animated shorts featuring Baby Groot.
Disney provided a look behind the scenes of upcoming “Star Wars” original series featuring Boba Fett and Obi Wan Kenobi, as well. An animated “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” movie starring John Mulaney and Andy Samberg was also announced.
More details on projects planned for 2022 and 2023 are expected throughout the day as Disney celebrates the streaming service’s second anniversary.
