New DVD, Blu-ray and digital release highlights for Sept. 13-19, 2021

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) – There's a nice variety to this week's releases that includes classics, blockbusters, festival favorites, family fare, and a horror film or two. So, let's dive in.

Digital

• Naked Singularity - JohnBoyega stars as a discouraged public defender in this courtroom drama that takes aim at the injustices of the justice system while the world begins to literally collapse around him.
  
  
• The Forever Purge -The Purge, a 12-hour period where murder and mayhem go unpunished, has become a cherished annual tradition. For some people 12-hours isn’t enough. America needs a constant, forever purge to make itself pure again. Yes, “The Forever Purge” looks white supremacy in the eye and the hyperviolence follows.

New on DVD and Blu-ray

• Black Widow -Having sided with Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff is a fugitive on the run once again. While not exactly the film I hoped for, "Black Widow" does most of what I wanted and needed the film to do for the character.Scarlett Johansson is great. As isFlorence Pugh who plays Romanoff's younger sister. [Full Review]
  
  
• The Boss Baby: Family Business -Brothers Tim (James Marsden) and Teddy (Alec Baldwin) have grown apart as they have grown older. Teddy has continued his child-genius ways into adulthood. His continued success has made him distant and arrogant. Tim lives a more modest life where his greatest concern is his daughter Tabitha who has become increasingly distant. What none of them know is that Tim’s youngest daughter, Tina (Amy Sedaris), is on a mission from Baby Corp and intends to send the family on an adventure that will bring them back together.
  
  
• Censor - Enid Baines (Niamh Algar) is a censor. She spends her days watching movies to protect the general public. She’s exact, meticulous and driven by a sense of duty. She’s also haunted by the childhood disappearance of her sister. Set against the backdrop of the video nasties era in 1980s England, "Censor" is a love letter to horror films, a condemnation of censorship, and a story about how obsession can distort reality.
  
  
• Mare of Easttown - Kate Winslet stars as Marianne "Mare" Sheehan, a police detective who sets out to solve a murder. Once a local basketball star, Sheehan has lost the confidence of her community.
  
  
• Zola - "Zola," amostly-true movie inspired by a series of tweet is a weekend gone terribly wrong as Zola (Janicza Bravo) embarks on a trip with her new friend Stefani (Riley Keough) to Florida where the pair will dance at a few gentleman's clubs before returning home flush with cash. Things don't go as planned.

New Catalog DVD and Blu-ray releases

• The Shawshank Redemption 4K UHD - In 1994, director/writer Frank Darabont adapted the Stephen King short story "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption." The film stars Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne, a man wrongfully convicted for his wife's death. In prison, Andy befriends Ellis Boyd Redding (Morgan Freeman). It's one of my favorite films and to finally be able to see it in 4K UHD is something I very much look forward to.
  
  
• Alone in the Dark - This 1982 horror film sees a group of dangerous men break out of a mental institution during a power outage. Together, they terrorize the head of the asylum. Features Jack Palance,Donald Pleasence, and Martin Landau.
  
• Cold War Creatures: Four Films from Sam Katzman - Sam Katzman was a producer of numerous B-movie features. This set includes four films from the 1950s: "Creature with the Atom Brain," "The Werewolf," "The Zombies of Mora Tau," and "The Giant Claw."
  
  
• Mona Lisa - Bob Hoskins stars as George, a recently released convict, who becomes the driver for Simone (Cathy Tyson), a high-priced call girl. Written and directed by Neil Jordan, "Mona Lisa" is a classic crime drama set in London's underworld.
