New DVD, Blu-ray and digital release highlights for the week of February 22-28, 2021

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A fairly quiet week as the "Euphoria" specials are available to own digitally and "The Croods" sees its physical release alongside a Blu-ray release of the 1972 Billie Holiday biopic "Lady Sings the Blues."

Digital

• Euphoria: Special Episode Part 1 and 2 - "Euphoria" is a series that is known for its excess. With these two "Special Episodes" writer directorSam Levinson goes smaller, more intimate as it turns its focus almost entirely to Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer).
• Scooby-Doo! The Sword and the Scoob - The latest Scooby-Doo! film sees theMystery Incorporated team being transported to a fantasy age of dragons, wizards and knights.

New on DVD and Blu-ray

• The Croods: A New Age -Having set out to explore the world beyond their cave, the Croods discover the edge of the world. And walk through it only to discover a lush world cultivated by the Bettermans, an evolved family.
• The Last Vermeer - Based on the true story of Han van Meegeren (Guy Pearce), an artist and dealer, accused of helping to move stolen works of art for the Nazi party. Meegeren is something of an enigma with a penchant for melodrama. His end game is not what you'd expect.

• Lady Sings the Blues -Diana Ross stars as Billie Holiday in the acclaimed 1972 drama that explores the troubled life of the incredibly talented singer. Co-starsBilly Dee Williams and Richard Pryor.
• John Hughes 5 Movie Collection - The bulk of the famed screenwriter (and occasional director) John Hughes in one convient package. The set includes"Planes, Trains and Automobiles," "Ferris Bueller’s Day Off," "She’s Having a Baby," "Pretty in Pink," and "Some Kind of Wonderful."
• Shogun's Joy of Torture - I don't know a lot about ero guro films beyond that they are a Japanese subgenre that is defined by eroticism and the grotesque (not necessarily gore). Directed by Teruo "The King of Cult" Ishii, "Shogun's Joy of Torture" is a trilogy of stories set in the Edo-era and is based on actual events. For fans of exploitation cinema.
• Smooth Talk - Released in 1985, "Smooth Talk" stars Laura Dern as a fifteen-year-old girl who becomes the subject of interest of an older not-so-gentle man (Treat Williams). A dangerous coming-of-age drama from writer/director Joyce Chopra based on Joyce Carol Oates' "Where are You Going, Where Have You Been?"2007
• The Criterion Collection is adding two films from Ramin Bahrani, 2005's "Man Push Cart" and 2007's "Chop Shop." Both films focus on life in New York City in a post-9/11 world for immigrants and marginalized groups who are forced to work twice as hard to get half as much.
