New DVD, Blu-ray and digital release highlights for the week of March 15-21, 2021

• Wonder Woman 1984 - It feels a little strange to be talking about Wonder Woman only days after experiencing "Zach Snyder's Justice League." That's where we're at. Set in 1984, we see Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) take on Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal), a businessman with an evangelistic style, who promises the marginalized a taste of wealth and prosperity. But it is a Faustian bargain. There's also the return ofSteve Trevor (Chris Pine) which proves to be problematic since he's dead. While not nearly as thrilling as the first film, "Wonder Woman 1984" is still an enjoyable experience that recalls the strange silliness of 1980s superhero cinema. (Full Review)

• Promising Young Woman -Carey Mulligan stars as Cassie in "Promising Young Woman," director/writer Emerald Fennell's ("Killing Eve") tale of a traumatized young woman who spends her evenings preying upon predatory men . Bo Burnham co-stars as a former classmate and future flame. It's dark. Mulligan is great. Not all stories have happy endings.
• Castle Freak - Inspired by the 1995 film, "Castle Freak" sees a young woman inherit a castle filled with monsters.
• Céline and Julie Go Boating -Jacques Rivette's 1974 release is dominated by themes of magic and magical realism as the lives of Céline and Julie (Dominique Labourier and Juliet Berto) interweave and the pair embark on various adventures in Paris. Considered one of the best example of French New Wave and an apparent influence on David Lynch's "The Lost Highway."
• The Invisible Man Appears/The Invisible Man VS the Human Fly - Arrow gives us a double feature featuring a pair of Japanese films based on the works ofH.G. Wells. Released in 1949 and 1957, the films are noteworthy as they are early examples of special-effect films that would become increasingly popular in Japanese and American cinemas. those involved would go on to work on both the Godzilla and Gamera series.
• The Legend of Korra: The Complete Series -Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino followed up the success of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" with this sequel series centered on Avatar Korra. All four seasons are collected in this Blu-ray collector's set.
• PG: Psycho Goreman -Steven Kostanski ("Manborg") returns with "Psycho Goreman." This time the narrative finds a pair of kids discovering a gem that allows them to control a murderous alien self identified as the Arch-Duke of Nightmares. The kids rename him Psycho Goreman and force him to play childish games with them. All is well and awkward until those who imprisoned the Arch-Duke discover that he's been freed. It's goofy. Goofy enough to inspire a company known as Plastic Meatball to make a whole line of products based on toys from the 1980s. Don't let that fool you. "Psycho Gorman" isn't for kids. It's for adults who are bemused by intentionally sill sci-fi/horror shlock.
