This week then quantity might not be on par with last week's releases. The quality, however, certainly is.

  • Judas and the Black Messiah -William O'Neal was given two options. He could go to jail for impersonating an FBI agent. Or, he could join the Black Panthers and become an informant for the FBI. "Judas and the Black Messiah" is based on a remarkable, tragic real story. Featuring outstanding performances from Daniel Kaluuya (who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor) as Black Panther leader Fred Hampton and LaKeith Stanfield as O'Neal, Shaka King's film is a powerful exploration of history from a conflicted participant's perspective.
  • The Little Things -Boasting a cast that includesDenzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto, director/writerJohn Lee Hancock's "The Little Things" is a complete misfire that fails to be as intriguing as the David Fincher films that it seems enamored with. The ending will leave you wanting your time and money back. You'll get neither.
  • Big Fish 4K UHD- I've always had an affinity for Tim Burton's films. Maybe its our kindred strangeness. "Big Fish" isn't as dark as some of the director's works but it certainly is magical in a carnival sideshow sort of way. Ewan McGregor stars as Edward Bloom, a man who can't help but exaggerate his personal history. Sony has been doing a marvelous job with their 4K releases. I'll be tracking this one down for my own collection.
  • Speed 4K UHD-Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper and Sandra Bullock star in directorJan de Bont ridiculous tale about a Los Angeles bus that will explode if it slows to less than 50 mph. It might be the quintessential 1990s action film. Bring more popcorn.
  • A Ghost Waits -MacLeod Andrews stars in this low-budget horror comedy about Jack who discovers that the house that he has been sent to clean is haunted by Muriel (Natalie Walker), a ghost who is tasked with keeping the home empty.
  • Trances - Previously available only in theMartin Scorsese's World Cinema Project, No. 1 boxset, "Trances" is a 1981 documentary aboutMoroccan band Nass El Ghiwane.
