'Practical Magic 2': everything we know about the Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman sequel

Fire up the midnight margaritas and hop on your broomsticks, the witches of “Practical Magic” are back!

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman confirmed in June 2024 that they would be reprising their roles as the Owens sisters, Sally and Gillian, in a sequel to the 1998 hit film that has become a cozy Halloween staple.

"Yes I will be in it. And Sandy will be in it. And that's that," Kidman told People Magazine at the time. "There's a lot more to tell which is why we go, 'OK, this is kind of interesting now to be able to do this.'"

She added, "[We] found a way in."

And now there’s more casting news with the announcement that Diane Weist and Stockard Channing will also be returning as the sisters’ kooky aunts, Jet and Franny, Deadline confirmed.

Joey King is joining the cast as Bullock’s daughter, and adding to the cast Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Marideuna, and Solly McLeod.

“Twenty-five years ago, Sally, Gillian, Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny flew off the pages of Alice Hoffman’s beloved novel and into theaters around the world, and we are thrilled to bring the Owens family back to the big screen with Joey, Lee, Maisie, Solly and Xolo joining the next chapter in our story,” the filmmakers said in a statement to the outlet.

They added, "The enduring affection for these characters has been our inspiration to deliver the next installment in the Owens’ story to new fans, and those who’ve been with us since the beginning.”

Other than King, details of the other actors’ roles are under wraps.

Alice Hoffman, who wrote the 1995 novel the film is based on, has two prequel novels, “The Rules of Magic” and “Magic Lessons” and one sequel novel, “The Book of Magic” following the Owens’ family, but no word on if any details of those books are being used in the movie sequel.

“Practical Magic 2” will be released on September 18, 2026.
