Rachael Ray is ‘heartbroken’ over the loss of her friend and fellow TV chef Anne Burrell.
Ray shared a touching post on Instagram Wednesday, writing, “The news about Anne has truly shaken us. John and I are heartbroken. I can’t quite believe it — such a strong, vibrant, fearless woman, so full of life and love, could be gone so soon.”
She continued, “Anne was a rockstar! I came to know her well through multiple seasons of Worst Cooks on Food Network, and she became so much more than a colleague.”
The post included multiple photos of the women over the years, including at Burrell’s wedding, where Ray was a bridesmaid.
“Anne honored me by asking me to be her bridesmaid, something I’d only done once before for my sister,” the “30 Minute Meals” host shared.

She also opened up about their bond, recalling, “Despite being surrounded by incredible chefs, she never once made me feel self-conscious about not being one — she always treated me as one of the gang. When we hosted ‘Worst Cooks’ together, we had the most incredible laughs. She even cooked for me and my guests at my wedding anniversary in Italy.”
“I’ll miss her friendship deeply. Everyone whose life she touched will miss her. Sending love to Stuart and everyone who knew and loved Anne. We’ve lost someone truly special,” Ray concluded the post.
Their fellow Food Network icon Bobby Flay also shared an Instagram story honoring Burrell and her love for cats, specifically the Maine Coon breed.
“‘Worst Cooks in America’ was the funnest show on TV. All of your co-hosts (me included) were just alongside for the Anne Burrell ride,” he wrote.
He continued, “The greatest gift I got from AB was turning me on to a world of Maine Coon Cats (including Nacho)a gift that I’ll have forever.”
Burrell died Tuesday at the age of 55.
The “Worst Cooks in America” star reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest at her home, and new details are emerging about what happened.
Law enforcement sources say Burrell’s husband Stuart Claxton allegedly found her unconscious in the bathroom in the early morning on Tuesday, per TMZ.
Claxton had last seen his wife alive around 1 a.m. and reportedly discovered her six or seven hours later on the shower floor of their New York City home, according to the outlet.
A formal cause of death is pending an autopsy with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
In a statement to People Magazine, Burrell’s family said, "Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal."
Burrell is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, and his son, Javier, as well as her mother Marlene, her sister Jane, and children Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas.
