UNDATED (WKRC) - Shedeur Sanders, one of the most anticipated prospects in the NFL draft, experienced a rollercoaster of emotions when he received a call claiming he had been selected by the New Orleans Saints. The call, however, turned out to be a prank.
ESPN reported on Sunday that the Son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich admitted to making the prank call.
"It's been a long wait, man," the coordinator's son allegedly said over the phone to Sanders in the prank call. "We're going to take you with our next pick, man, but you're going to have to wait a little bit longer, man. Sorry about that."
The coordinator's son then allegedly hung up the phone, and Sanders, confused by the situation, said to the crowd gathered for his draft party, "What does that mean?"
ESPN reported what Sanders said about the prank call after he was drafted by the Browns:
It didn't really have an impact on me, because it was just like, I mean, OK, like I don't feed into negativity or I don't feed into that stuff. You've seen on Deion [Sanders] Jr.'s YouTube video. My reaction to it, I don't -- it is what it is. I think of course it is childish. Of course, I feel like it was a childish act, but everybody does childish things here and there.
Despite the initial disappointment, Sanders' draft day ended on a high note when he was officially picked by the Cleveland Browns as the 144th overall selection in the fifth round.
