WASHINGTON (SBG) – An upgraded feature from Spotify lets you and your friends have listening parties featuring your favorite tunes, whether you're six feet apart or halfway across the world.

The company launched its first beta version of "Group Session" in May, but the recently-upgraded version comes with a new twist: users around the world can now listen to the same playlist or podcast simultaneously.

Here's how it works: click the "Connect" menu in the bottom left corner of your phone or computer and scroll down to find "Start a group session." From there, copy the invitation link and send to your friends to have them join the session.

They also have the option of scanning the Spotify code to join.

Groups of two to five people can use the feature at a time. The company says both the host and invited guests have control over the pause, play and skip options, as well as selecting tracks on the queue. This means if one person makes a change on their device, it reflects on all other devices.

Spotify says since the Group Session feature is still in beta, users can expect more changes in the future.
