Sydney Sweeney could face criminal charges for Hollywood sign bra stunt
Sydney Sweeney’s latest publicity stunt could land her in legal trouble.
The “Euphoria” star climbed up to the Hollywood sign as part of a promotional stunt for her upcoming lingerie brand, Syrn, hanging bras on the landmark, per TMZ.
Video obtained by the outlet shows Sweeney, dressed in black, climbing up a portion of the landmark at night and decorating it with bras, accompanied by additional unidentified people.
Sweeney also shared the video on her Instagram page, showing her and members of her team driving in a van up the winding hillside in the dark to place the bras on the sign.
TMZ reported that Sweeney did have a permit to film, but she could still face legal trouble.
Steve Nissen, president and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, who owns the intellectual property rights to the image of the Hollywood sign, said in a statement to People they "did not grant a license or permission of any kind to the production involving Sydney Sweeney as reported by TMZ, nor did anyone seek a license or permission from the Chamber for that production.”
Nissen added the production was "not authorized by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce nor did we have prior knowledge of it."
"Anyone intending to use and/or access the Hollywood Sign for commercial purposes must obtain a license or permission from the Hollywood Chamber to do so," added Nissen.
Although the sign is on public land, it's in a restricted area, and there are laws against climbing the structure.
Trespassing on the site itself can lead to a misdemeanor charge, which can result in a fine of up to $1,000, or up to six months in prison.
The Chamber have yet to file a report for trespassing and/or vandalism, and they are still investigating the stunt.
Nissen told TMZ, "We are still investigating how and under what authority (if any) the production accessed the site."
