'The Devil Wears Prada 2' cast adds familiar faces alongside Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway
"By all means, move at a glacial pace, you know how that thrills me." Miranda Priestly’s famous line fits exactly how we are feeling as this sequel slowly takes shape, but thankfully things are starting to move along.
In fact, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is already in production with some old favorites returning along with some exciting newcomers.
Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all confirmed to reprise their roles in the sequel to the 2006 hit, which earned Streep her 14th Oscar nomination, per Variety.
Joining the cast are “Charlie’s Angels” and “Elementary” star Lucy Liu, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” star Justin Theroux, “The Office” star B.J. Novak, and “Sex Lives of College Girls” star Pauline Chalamet (sister of Timothee Chalamet).
“Bridgerton” star Simone Ashely is also set for a mystery role in the film, according to Deadline. The outlet also reported that Oscar-winner Kenneth Branagh will be playing the husband to Streep’s character, the icy Miranda Priestly.
The cast is also getting a dose of Broadway with Helen J. Shen and Conrad Ricamora, as well as comedian Caleb Hearon.
Also coming back are Tracie Thoms as Hathaway’s character’s best friend Lily, and Tibor Ravitz as chairman of the parent company for Runway, the movie’s fictional version of Vogue.
Just about the only person not returning is Adrien Grenier, who played Hathaway’s boyfriend Nate in the original film, first reported by Entertainment Weekly.
“The Devil Wears Prada” was based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name, inspired by her time working under Anna Wintour at Vogue. In the film, Hathaway played aspiring journalist Andy Sachs, who is hired as an assistant to Streep’s Miranda Priestly. Andy contends with her intense demands and finds herself rising the ranks in the magazine, but at a personal cost to her own beliefs and dreams.
No plot details are available for the sequel just yet, nor an official release date, but there are multiple reports the film will be in theaters next May.
