Over 500 movies have been filmed in Oregon and you’ve probably heard of most of them!

You might know, have been to, or live near movie history and not even know it! How many on the list do you know? Check it out below!

The Goonies

On the border of Oregon and Washington, Astoria was the setting of the 1985 classic film. The iconic jail scene was filmed at what is now the Oregon Film Museum. The “Goonies house” on 38th Street has now become a popular tourist destination. Other scenes were shot in Cannon Beach, just southwest of the fishing village, like the Lighthouse Lounge.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

The mental institution in the Oscar-winning classic was actually shot in the Oregon State Hospital in Salem. The Jack Nicholson starrer used wards three and four for filming. Believe it or not, real patients at the hospital were used as extras in the film! If you remember the fishing trip scene, that was shot in Depoe Bay.

National Lampoon’s Animal House

The University of Oregon in Eugene provided the setting for the fictional Faber College, using locations like Herb Memorial Union, Gerlinger Hall, Johnson Hall and Fenton Hall. Think back to the “road trip” scene, that was Dexter Lake Club, just 20 miles east of Eugene. It’s still operating, and it’s even incorporated movie memorabilia into its décor.

Twilight

Demascus provided fans with Carver Café, where Bella brings Charlie for their after-school meal. The View Point Inn, near Corbett, was transformed into the site of Bella and Edward’s prom. You can find Bella’s house and the parking lot where Edward saves Bella in the City of St. Helens.

Halloweentown

Also primarily filmed in the City of St. Helens, their Courthouse Square was transformed into the Disney classic’s main square. While it is a small town near Portland, the Duwayne Dunham film used the real City Hall for their town hall scenes. You can see the building when Benny rolls up in his cab! Colia Theater, a real theater there, is where Aggie Cromwell confronts Kalabar in the film’s epic conclusion.

Did you know some of these classics were all filmed in Oregon?!
