“The Simpsons” is saying goodbye to one of its residents after 35 seasons.

On the November 16 episode of the long-running series, Alice Glick, the organist at the First Church of Springfield died mid-sermon.

In the episode, titled “Sashes to Sashes,” Alice was honored at Springfield Elementary, where it was revealed she left her estate to fund a new music program for the school.

Alice has apparently died before in a season 22 episode, seemingly killed by a Robopet gone wild, but she returned several episodes later alive and well.

Executive producer Tim Long told People in a statement, "In a sense, Alice the organist will live forever, through the beautiful music she made. But in another, more important sense, yep she's dead as a doornail."

Alice made her debut in the season 2 episode “Three Men and a Comic Book” back in 1991. The late Cloris Leachman initially provided her voice, followed by series regular Tress MacNeille.

While most of the “The Simpsons” characters are basically immortal at this point, a few have been killed off permanently.

The most recent was Larry “the Barfly” Dalrymple, who died in the 2024 episode “Cremains of the Day."

Some others include Ned Flanders’ wife Maude, Homer’s mom Mona, Lisa’s jazz idol Bleeding Gums Murphy, and Rabbi Hyman Krustofksy, Krusty the Clown’s dad.

The character of Edna Krabappel was retired but not killed off, following the death of her voice actress Marcia Wallace in 2013. The show handled the sad news in a sweet way during an episode, with a chalkboard gag from Bart that read “We’ll really miss you Mrs. K,” and acknowledgement from Ned Flanders (who she was married to in later seasons) and Bart’s classmate Nelson that they would miss Edna.
